How to Prepare Your Home for a Regular Cleaning Visit

A recurring cleaning visit is different from a deep cleaning or a one-time booking. Your cleaner comes on the same day every week or every other week, knows your home, and works through a routine. But how you prepare for that visit makes a real difference in what gets covered and how smoothly the team can work. This guide covers the practical side of preparing for a recurring regular cleaning in New York and California — what to do in the ten minutes before the team arrives, what to tell us about changes in your home, and what you can safely ignore because it is our job, not yours.

The ten-minute prep — what actually matters

You do not need to clean before we clean. What you do need is ten minutes of pickup so we can reach the surfaces that need attention. Here is the short list:

  • Clear countertops and tables. Mail, keys, dishes, kids' homework, the laptop. Put them in a drawer or a basket. If countertops are clear, we can wipe them properly.
  • Pick up clothes and clutter from floors. We vacuum and mop every room on our route. Clothes, shoes, bags, and toys on the floor slow us down and leave corners untouched. A quick toss into the closet or a laundry basket takes two minutes and makes a real difference.
  • Make beds. Not for us — for you. A made bed lets us tidy the bedroom without rearranging your bedding. If you prefer to leave it unmade, leave a note and we work around it.
  • Secure valuables and pets. Jewelry, cash, important documents — put them away. Pets should be in a separate room or crated during the cleaning. We work around them but the vacuum and mop stress most animals.

That is it. Ten minutes. Everything else is our job. See our regular cleaning service page for what every visit includes.

What to tell us before each visit

Life changes between visits. A quick heads-up helps us adjust the cleaning to what your home actually needs that week:

  • Spills or accidents. Spilled juice on the rug, pet accident in the corner, mud tracked through the entryway — tell us when we arrive or leave a note. We spot-treat it during the visit.
  • New furniture or rearrangements. If you moved the couch or added a new piece, tell us so we clean around and under it properly.
  • Extra guests or a party. Hosted a dinner party the night before? The kitchen and living room need extra attention. Leave a note or mention it at the door.
  • Changes in access. New door code, new doorman, new building rules — update us ahead of time so we are not stuck outside on cleaning day.

You can leave notes in our booking portal or call (657) 737-7171 the morning of your visit.

What we handle so you do not have to

A regular cleaning visit from 3 Sisters covers everything your home needs to stay consistently fresh. Every visit includes:

  • Dusting all surfaces, furniture, and decor
  • Vacuuming carpets and rugs in every room
  • Mopping hard floors (kitchen, bathroom, entryway)
  • Cleaning and sanitizing all bathroom surfaces
  • Wiping kitchen counters, backsplash, and sink
  • Emptying trash bins and replacing liners
  • Spot-cleaning mirrors and glass surfaces
  • Sanitizing high-touch points (door handles, light switches, railings)
  • Tidying general living spaces

If you want something different for a specific visit — skip the living room this week, focus on the kitchen — just tell us. Recurring clients have that flexibility. See the full list on our Regular Cleaning page.

Building access in NYC and CA — what your cleaner needs

New York and California buildings have their own access quirks. Here is what helps your cleaner arrive on time:

  • Manhattan. Doorman buildings: add your cleaner to the building's visitor list or leave a key with the front desk. Co-op and condo buildings: check whether cleaning services need a freight elevator reservation.
  • Brooklyn. Walk-ups with no elevator: let us know the floor. Our team carries all equipment — vacuums, mops, supplies — so a fourth-floor walk-up adds a few minutes to the setup time.
  • Queens. Mixed building types: some have doormen, some have lockboxes, some have street access only. Tell us what works for your building.
  • San Francisco. Many buildings have dedicated service entrances or garage parking for vendors. Confirm the access rules with your building manager before your first visit.

If anything changes between visits — new doorman, new code, construction in the building — update us through the booking portal or a quick call.

What not to worry about

There are things many clients worry about that they genuinely do not need to. Here is the list of things to stop thinking about:

  • You do not need to buy special cleaning products. We bring vacuums, mops, cloths, and tools. You provide the cleaning products you already trust — your floor cleaner, your all-purpose spray, your bathroom disinfectant. That way nothing in your home gets a chemical it was not designed for.
  • You do not need to be home. Most recurring clients leave us a key or a door code and come back to a clean home. If you work from home, we work around your schedule.
  • You do not need to tip — but it is appreciated. Tipping is never expected but always appreciated. Ten to twenty percent is the common range. Cash or digital, the cleaner keeps it all.
  • You do not need to worry about consistency. We send the same cleaner or team to recurring clients whenever possible. If your regular cleaner is out sick, the assigned backup knows your home from the visit notes. No starting from scratch every time.
